Heat Exchangers for the Marine Industry

SA179 Tubes provides heat exchangers to support critical on-board systems of cruise ships, container vessels, bulk carriers, trawlers, tankers, barges, and tub boats, such as icebreakers, trawlers, tankers, barges, and tub boats. The state-of-the-art technology we offer is designed and manufactured to meet the highest standards to ensure a long operational lifetime and durability. We work closely with our customers to provide them with the expertise and solutions they need to boost their vessels’ performance.

Merchant fleet

There are over 50,000 merchant ships trading internationally, transporting a variety of cargo. It would be impossible to supply goods on the scale required to meet modern demands without them.

Emission control

The average container ship emits 40 times less CO2 than a large freight aircraft and three times less than a heavy lorry, but shipping has come under scrutiny because of emissions of nitrogen and sulphur oxides (NOx and SOx). The International Maritime Organisation (IMO) capped the sulphur content of marine fuel in 2010 at 3.5% worldwide, and at 1% in emission control areas (ECAs). In 2015, the ECA limit was lowered to 0.1%.

Outlook is plain sailing

In addition to a growing population, the long-term economic growth of Asia, Africa and Latin America will result in an increase in seaborne trade over the next decade. The demand for imported goods will also increase in emerging economies with higher disposable incomes. As a result, more and more people are spending their leisure time afloat. Since 1990, annual passenger numbers on cruises have increased by nearly seven percent. With a vast array of onboard facilities and activities, larger, more diverse ocean liners have become destinations in themselves.
